The Sustainability Learning Collaborative (SLC) project is designed to increase the reach and impact of financial and scholarly investments in secondary and post-secondary education in rural and urban areas of New Hampshire by connecting them with sustainability content and pedagogy.
The SLC will link the University of New Hampshire (UNH), including its urban Manchester campus, with two community colleges (1 urban and 1 rural) and 4 high schools (2 urban and 2 rural) with large under-served populations (ethnically and socioeconomically). The SLC will engage a total of 16 teachers and community college faculty in curriculum development and in pedagogy and assessment professional studies. Teachers and faculty will develop new curricula, pedagogy, and assessment strategies reflecting the principles, content, and practice of sustainability. The SLC will design curricula during three curricular design workshops in March, April and July 2013. The Sustainability Institute at UNH's “CORE” model (curriculum, operations, research and engagement) will be adapted by teachers and faculty to reflect the unique conditions, challenges, and opportunities of their respective educational settings. The goal is for each participating school to implement the curriculum in fall 2013. We estimate that those teachers and faculty will in turn reach more than 100 students. |
